Hair Expo..First
On March 24th & 25th, I had the pleasure of going to my first natural hair care event. It was an expo in Baltimore, MD that showcased various companies and their products, giveaways, live entertainment and workshops. Everything from apparel, to food was on display and there were a ton of women and men taking it all in. It was a bit crowded the first day, so I explored all the exhibits and decided that on the second day, I'd make purchases, attend a workshop (and do so early so I could beat the crowds and get an early start on heading home); that plan worked out perfectly. The hairstyle of the event I'd have to say was dreadlocks: they came in all different styles, colors, and lengths. Adorned in scarves, or flowing freely from the scalp, they could be seen in droves at this event. There were also plenty of women rocking their natural curls in various ways: twists, twistouts, curly, updos, and the like. The people and their hair was just as much fun to see as the products vendors had to show. I met some great people along the way. A sister from Virginia Beach who partnered with her sister in a line of natural hair and body products, two beautiful women from Deleware who made the trip with a church group, and a sister from a beading company who did everything handmade and could customize pieces as well (for those like me who can only wear clip on earrings, and has a wrist that isn't the average 7"). I also met the owner of Hennasooq..her name is Khadijah. I attened a workshop she offered on aruveydic hair care. I had already knew plenty about the company, as it is where I purchase and order my henna from to naturally dye my hair. I learned a lot in that workshop. I had only explored her company as it realated to haircare, and was surprised to learn about some of the other products she offered. Attending that workshop and stopping by her booth was the last thing I did before I left. I made other purchases as well. I stopped by Oyin Handmade and got a sample pack of their products to try, and a Black Nerds Unite tee (I had been wanting one since forever), I bought shampoo bars, rhassoul clay powder and oils from Hennasooq, jewelry from another sister, and some shea butter, hair oils, and black soap from a young man..everyone was offering shea butter and black soap, in a ton of varieties and sizes, but he had the best prices. All in all it was a wonderful experience that I won't forget. Oh and I also met a Youtuber that I subscribe to: PhillyDiva1954; it was a pleasure metting her; she was really down to earth. Now that I've been to one, I'm ready for my next one. It's about getting out, meeting new people and having a new experience. I look forward to many more of these opportunities...~SMOOCHES...XOXOXOXOX~
